DIY: craft your own hydrating facial mask with oatmeal, rose & marshmallow root

Face masks have played a role in my self-care routine since I can remember. Most of the masks I've used have been clay-based, leading to increased dryness and irritation more than anything else.

I love creating masks with the various herbs I have in my home apothecary. One of the masks I am constantly reaching for is my oatmeal, rose & marshmallow root mask.

Oatmeal: oatmeal a powerful and in my opinion, underused botanical in skincare. It provides a gentle exfoliation, is deeply hydration, and incredibly soothing.

Rose: a favorite herb of mine, rose is high in vitamins E and C, both of which are antioxidants and extremely supportive of aging skin.

Marshmallow root: marshmallow root has the unique ability to create a gel-like substance when exposed to water making this herb incredibly soothing. Marshmallow root is also a wonderful herb for fascia and lymphatic support when applied topically. Internally, too :)

To make your own:

Combine equal parts of organic oats, rose, and marshmallow root and grind in a sanitized blender or coffee grinder. Add desired amount to a dish and add water until your desired consistency is reached. Allow your mask to sit for several minutes so the plants have time to release all their beneficial compounds.
